Newbie buying first Harley, a Rocker
I'm going to be purchasing my 1st Harley. I have decided on a rocker.
Not sure if I should go new or used. There are some good deals on used bikes.
My plans are to go with the Heartland look.
I have been on this site doing a lot of reading. I am one who enjoys wrenching & modifying my rides as much as riding them. Cars, sleds, sea-doo's, etc.
Any advise what to look for when buying a new or used Rocker?

I decided to go new for now my self. I cant seem to find a good deal on one in flat black near me but if something worth while pops up ill consider.The 2011s have the option for the security package that allso includes ABS big reason for me to get new.either way i need to fill my penny jar a little more

New or used, you'll enjoy the Rocker. It's a different look for a stock Harley. The biggest review you get from owners seems to be the seat, too much gap between seat and fender. A Danny Gray seat took care of that for me. The Heartland biker seat and fender conversion is nice but seems a little pricey but the whole package (seat, fender, second seat & luggage rack) is a great option if you haven't put the HD saddlebags on already. Aftermarket items are still a little thin, but getting better , considering the Rocker is still a fairly new design. New or used, you'll enjoy.

Used = usually better price
New = better financing
If you can actually find a used Rocker, consider it and look it over. If you can find a used one for a good deal that still lives up to your expectations, go for it. Otherwise, new is still new. You'll just have to haggle with the dealership. My local dealer hasn't gotten any Rockers in since '09. One is still sitting on the floor. Guess they aren't too popular around here? Funny, since it seems both Tulsa and Springfield sell a lot of them...
Also, if you do some research on here, you will notice that there is a colour debate...so choose wisely. There is a blue team and a red team (the most fierce competition), and then there is the black team. Blue and red seem to be concerned most that their colour options improve the speed and handling of their bike. I don't have a Rocker, but I'll try to recruit you to the Red team anyway. I like the Rocker in red best.
If you do go used, I would recommend that you steer away from the standard Rocker, unless you can land an exceptional deal, and stick with the Rocker C. The additional chrome is worth the difference in cost.
You will love the Rocker. Personally, I like the way they come stock, with the fender attached to the swingarm. But, that's me. You can do whatever you like to the bike, and a Rocker is a great bike to start with. It is a fairly new design, so right now is a good time to pioneer and do something wild and different with it!

I bought my 08 brand new in 09, got a great deal on it. Mine is black with the grey and thats what i wanted. I personally wanted something different, i didnt want alot of chrome. I get alot of compliments on my bike. Most people who are not riders say i should change the grey and replace it with chrome. lol Mods for the Rocker can be pricey but are worth it. You should buy what makes you happy, you have to ride it.

Go for it!!! I wished I would of went with a Rocker. Would of been half the price for me building my own rocker out of my softail custom.

I wouldn't buy a bike now, wait until January or February and buy used. There were some really good deals on Ebay over this past winter on '08 and '09 rockers with low miles. I bought 2 new bikes in the last 7 years and 1 used. I'll never buy a new bike again, you get more bang for your buck with slightly used,specially if you like wrenching and you're gonna be spending more cash on parts. Lotta guys buy bikes and never ride 'em and sell 'em, just like buying a new bike but for thousands less. Then again, if you have deep pockets, what's the difference.
