what helmet do you use? A heavy helmet will make your neck muscles tired.

I don't wear a helmet, so looks like risers, or different bars. I always thought apes would kill your shoulders, I guess I must be wrong. Thanks for all the replys. Time to go out and get the burn going again. Ha

I had the same pain. It got so bad that it hurt to turn my head to the left. I haven't had that problem since switching to 14" apes. Good luck.

Apes are much more comfortable than they look. Go to a dealer and see if they've got a set installed on one of their bikes and sit on it. You'll be amazed at how much better than stock they are.

Maybe others with apes will stop in and give their experiences.
I couldn't have said it any better

Again, to each there own. I find pain comes from one part of my body trying to compensate for an odd position of another part of my body.
Great advice. You need to make the bike fit you. we must have had the same teacher.

I lowered the rear and put a badlander seat on.

That helped alot. I will more than likely throw some apes on before too long.

I may have missed something here...But do you use a windshield? That'll save your neck from a lot of pain.

I have 12" and 10" apes on my bike. Depends on the risers how high an ape to get and the height of your back. Mine sit about 2-3" below my shoulders and I have ridden crosscountry several times with no neck pain or shoulder pain. Apes that are higher than your shoulder may make your hands go numb constantly.. NOT FUN.. but these are just my opinions I'm sure others will say something different..

No, I don't use a windshield. Signed up for Friday off, so taking a ride to the Harley store, and check on risers, and bars. Thanks for all the advice.
