I hate to interrupt the flirting... but can someone answer this? Can anyone point me to the page in the 2010 manual that will explain how to tighten up the neck bearing? My FBL has the same issue and after reading thread after thread about the issue, I'm almost certain that's what's causing it. Can I tighten them myself and do I need any special tools? What page in the manual will show me what to do? Thanks.
Are you are noticing the wobbling when the bike decels from 30-35 and then it is gone? If so I had the same problem last fall from 45-40mph. Took it to the dealer bike was under warranty the tightened the head bearings and the problem went away. It is now starting to come back again. So this time I will be doing it myself.
Like previous poster I too am confused about the manual. I hope someone can point us in the right direction. I have done the fall away test I know the bearings need to be tightened again.
It's called a fall away test. Search this forum. There are several entries on how to do it. I tried providing the directions from my 07 manual but it didn't take for some reason.
For the $75 the dealer charges I think I'd just as soon have them adjust the neck bearings. I tried it on my Heritage when I had a hi speed wobbling issue and unless you disconnect the cables you can't get an accurate reading with the fall away method because they bind.
I did do the fall away check on the wife's deluxe when I put her new bars on and it was w/i specs.
I check the spokes every 5k now,, dealer was supposed to do it,, but at 1k after a service I found several loose,, I check them myself now...
Same goes for the neck bearings,, took way to many pumps to get any to come out of the neck bearing,, so I they just hit them with one to three pumps,, they never would have any in them...
Mechanic was off racing his motorcycles last week! I checked everything I could, tire pressure, spokes, tire wear(we don't have a lift) and will take it into Jeff Thursday. Probably a 10 minute fix! May be time to get a lift!
There are some very nice motorcycle jacks out there. They just get better as time goes and lower in price.Sears has a pretty nice one for about $150.00 and you see them on Craigslist quite often also.It makes cleaning wheels and whitewalls so much easier.
