Just made the switch to Mobil 1 V-Twin in the engine. After a short ride tonight, I double checked my oil level and found it spot on, but the oil looked "foamy" in the tank. I searched the tech section and found most saying this was "normal". But i wanted my friends in our little part of cyber world to chime in...
It's the moisture that does it. Get your engine oil up to operating temperature and you won't have it. Your short ride did not get the oil hot enough to evaporate the water.
(the moisture comes from the air and from the combustion process. It's one of the reasons why it's a bad idea to turn on the engine for 15 minutes when laid up in the winter)
I'm fairly certain I go the engine up to operating temp with a 20 mile ride, two up. Sounds like this "foaming" may be an issue... However, humidity and dew points last week were in the "tropical rain forest" range. Could this have caused condensation in the oil tank?
I have used Mobil 1 V-Twin and Amsoi 20w-50, No difference it always shows foam after awhile into the ride. 5 years, 35,000 Kms no issues no worries friend. I believe most oil would foam at the temps our bikes get to when riding. I also change my oil at 2500kms or very close.
