Default H-D Starter

I have an 08 FXSTC last year with 33,000 miles on the bike I had to put on a new starter. less then a year later with 47,000 miles on the bike that starter is going out. Should I put a H-D starter back on it or go with an after market high output starter.

Things to consider: Starter power difference between the two starters (do you need the extra power)
Difference in price
Difference in looks, if any
Reliability of manufacturer
Keeping it pure H-D

I just had mine rebuilt for $175 at 52,000 miles. Hope to get another 52,000 miles on it as changing a starter requires far too many parts to remove.

My starter went out at 75000. It would spin and throw but not engage. I discovered 5 Bearings in the clutch assembly of th starter were worn out. I purchased three 7 mm drill bits & cut the shaft into 6 bearings 13mm long. Installed the five best examples & repaired my starter for $11 & a little dremel time. Maybe it could work 4 u. Have fun & #ridesafe
