Default 5th Gear Whine

I bought a 09 Softail Deluxe new in February of this year. At the 1,000 mile service I switched to SYN 3. My bike has developed a whine when I shift to 5th gear. It happens in 5th gear only. A friend owns a 09 Road King and he says that it is normal as 5th gear is a straight cut gear. Anyone know anything about this? Any fix for it or should I just get louder pipes?

I wear ear plugs when riding. When people ask me if mine does it I say 'probably'.

It is what it is. I have read that you can have a helical gear installed like the 2010's but I'll just live with mine.

Switch the tranny fluid to a gear lube like Bel Ray severe gear. It will nix about 80% of it.

That is correct. Fifth is a straight cut gear. They went helical in 2010 to get rid of the noise but the straight cut is a stronger gear. It was designed that way because it would be 'slammed' into fifth for passing etc. Mine did this too but putting pipes on fixed everything. I'm also running BelRay.

When the issue first arose with the 6-speed, the MOCO's fix was to use Belray.

Anyone know how the Bel Ray compares to redline's shockproof. I switch after the break in period and the shockproof comes out of the bottle like molasses.
