The low fuel light on my 2002 is on the gas gauge. It is an orange light. I don't know if it will work on your if the gauge is toasted, but they are notoriously wrong regardless.
Yes the fuel gauge is worthless. Go by mileage. I strapped a little 1gal gas can on the back of the bike since I don't have the option of a reserve and road til I was out. I know it isn't a perfect solution so at about 20mi out on the trip meter I fill up.
The low fuel light on my 05 Heritage is on teh speedo next to the engine light. My gas gauge was stuck at full also, and teh light still came on. Usually at about 200 miles. They fixed my guage and told me they get stuck alot...?

I have an '02 heritage. hd mechanic said, "an overly filled tank could cause the float to stick near the top."
he said they open it up and slide the float back down. i tried that. looked like the guage was working. i trusted it and ran out! whatta bummer but, i was on my way to visit a friend and wasn't far from where he was. he brought a gallon...

"YEAH" they get stuck so much that this Is the First TIME I've seen it talked about in here in 5 yrs...
My GAS gauge and Low fuel light has worked perfect for 5yrs or since I bought her new....
IMO those that are Fugged up are probably the ones that someone who shouldn't be working on them,, did...
I read in here all the time about someone who's taken off there tanks..
Wouldn't it be easy to just figure out around what Ur mileage is and use the A setting on Ur

Yeah,,,Thats prob average, 160-170 before the light comes on.
Seems I get 40-46 mpg pending on where and how I ride.
So my light usually comes on around 165-175 unless I am on the Hi=way, then its around 180-185miles.
When the low fuel light does come on and I refill quickly, It has always taken between .9 to 1.2 gals of gas to fill up.
I have read in here that the float inside the tank can be bent easy and the accurateness of the gauge will be off if its removed to change hose's or filter by someone who's not careful when they re-install it.
