I just had both my stock dunlops replaced with Avon Venoms by a very reputable local indy in my area. The tires seem to handle very well, but seem quite bouncy at certain speeds. If I am riding at about 43-44mph in 3rd and decrease my speed to 40mph, you can really notice the bounce. I went on their website and for my tires they list, 38psi up front and 44 in the rear. What is everyone else running for pressure on the avons with a deluxe?? Handling seems fine, and I am not getting vibration through the bars, so I don't think it's the balancing. Plus, it would be very surprising if this particular indy incorrectly balanced the tires. Any info would be very helpful. Sadly, they are closed this weekend, so I am out of luck having them help me sort it out. I did call them yesterday after I left their shop and told him it was a bit bouncy and he said that would calm down after some miles. I hope he's right because it's annoying.
on a side note, I also had them take a look at my primary. I was hearing a noise out of the primary with the bike in neutral and the clutch out. Pull the clutch in and the noise goes away. Turns out it was a bad primary bearing. They said that it was the first one they've ever had to replace and was probably due to an improperly hardened bearing at manufacture. Bike has about 12000 miles. Wasn't a terribly expensive fix at $200 with both parts and labor.
i know that different tires will feel spongy as the rubber is softer. if it was out of round or balance then it would do it at all speeds. let the indy drive it for a second option.
My experience with Avons is that they are a softer rubber compound and if properly mounted, balanced, and the correct psi the ride should be much smoother. I inflate Avons when I'm using them to the max psi for each tire... prevents bounce and cupping of the tire.
Never had that issue with Avon's. i am on my second set. Get some Dyna beads and put them in and get rid of the wheel weights,. Mine are smooth as silk.
Like Doc I have the dyna beads and my Avons are very smooth. I will say that one time my front tire was low by 4 lbs, and it was bumpy after I adjusted the pressure it all was fine
