Default Softail Custom seat bolts

First time taking the stock seat off my 2007 Softail Custom and what do I find?
3 different size bolts ..... (2) 1 1/2" bolts, a 1" and a 2", (rough guess on lengths).
Funny thing is I wasn't paying attention to where they came off.
It looks like they should all be the same length to me.
Any comments/help would be appreciated.

Stock seat? I have two 1" or so in the base of the seat, Two 2" or so that holds the strap through the fender support and the stub that bolts to the rear of the fender. Where did they come from?

My 08 softail custom has 2 going through the sissy bar. I slide the strap as I pull the front tongue of the seat out, slide the strap off the back of the seat and the seat is off, strap still attached to bike. Im not sure if there is a difference from 07 to 08 on a custom or not.

I'm not talking about my Heritage, I'm talking about my Softail Custom.

I'm talking about the 4 bolts that secure the seat through the fender struts.

You mean the sissybar, the seat is only held on with two nuts on the back of the sissybar.

If you reach up underneath the fender when you put the bolts back you should just be able to feel them almost flush with the inside edge.
If your removing the sissybar you might want to check out the DIY Cheap thread at the top of the page to see how I replaced mine.

The stock bolts without the sissybar are going to stick through almost 1/2" farther than usual and that might present a problem for the tire. Otherwise I would get a set of bolts made for the Nightrain or Standard as they don't have the same sissybar setup and the bolts are shorter.

I looked them up in my parts manual and the rear two bolts on both sides of the FXSTC are PN=4598, 3/8-16 x1 1/8" the shorter one is PN=4266A 3/8-16 x 7/8". Only the Custom uses the longer bolts, all the others use the same shorter bolt in all three holes (excluding the front two under the seat, they another length) of the fender support.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. The (2) 1 1/8" go in the rear and the other 2 go in the front. Just need to figure out where the longest one goes.
I assumed the sissy bar and seat were 1 piece ...... didn't know you could separate them, (remove the sissy bar).
I'll check out your thread in DIY Cheap. Thanks for the help!

One thing to be aware of with the Custom seats bolts, they are common carriage bolts that are held semi captive in the seat back.
Screw around with them the wrong way and you 'could' mess up the holder making them a PITA to tighten up again.
I doubt it will happen, but it did to one guy and he was forced to use epoxy injected into the hole to get them to stay still for him.
