Default Thinking of getting a softail

Hi everyone. I currently ride a 02 sportster hugger, and I am planning to upgrade to the Heartige softail classic. I love the way the bike looks, and I plan on doing some touring and some 3-5 day rides. Can any of the current owners tell me how the heritage softail classic is on comfort for extended rideing? How does she handle, and tell me any other observations you may have came to learn about the softail. Thanks in advance. Excuse my spelling!!

Well mine isn't a Heartige but I own a custom built shovelhead softail and I love it. It handles great and is alot more cofortable ride then my Sportster I owned or the 80 FLT I owned.

I've had my 2010 Heritage since last March. It's a solid, smooth ride. Very comfortable on long rides...easy to handle on the short ones. So far I really like this bike...I'd buy it all over again.

Another non Heritage here! but I did similar to what your thinking about. I ride a 2000 fatboy softail now, it's my second harley, my first one was an 04 sportster and the softail is way more comfy, I loved the way my sportster looked but it was too small for me. and it never did ride smooth, of course I lowered it two inches but still, Get your self a softail, you wont regret it!!

My FatBoy is no CVO touring bike, but it is a GREAT motorcycle, lacking really only one necessary luxury for touring (besides a big bag) and that is a windshield, which is easily installed.

Had a sportster in 1998. Bought a 2000 Heritage and put 20,000 miles on it before I sold it while raising kids. Just bought my second one, a 2010 Heritage. I have ridden as far as 600 miles in a day and as short as to the local saloon. I think it is Harley's most versatle bike. You can put detachable mounts on the sissy bar and bags so you can turn it into a cruiser in 10 minutes. You got the bags and windshield if you want to tour.

I've done some 1000km days on my 09, and quite a few 3-5 day trips. Love the bike!! The seat feels great on the backside, smooth ride, put a T-bag on and you have all the storage of touring bike, but you can strip it down once you get where you're going and have your "cool" bike. The downsides are that it's a little slower out of the box than a touring bike, and it really doesn't corner quite as well. Neither of those are real problems, but only fair to mention them. I ride mostly with touring bikes, and keep up just fine, and at the end of a long day, I'm no more tired then they are. Hope that helps...
