So I went to a bike shop that caters to HD to buy an oil filter and they were out of the black HD filters but they did have an after market filter in black.
It is a MotorFactory oil filter.
Anyone have any experience with this brand good, bad, ugly or indifferent?
Also, I am not riding out to the dealer to get oil (I hate those F'ers anyway) so I am going to get syn oil from the automotive place, anyone have any strong opinions on brand? <sigh> Yes this topic again, sorry fellas and gals but I am a newbie and I don't wanna F'k my **** up.
I have not heard anything bad about MotorFactory stuff... I use the HD filters myself. As for oil, I only run 1 brand, Amsoil ! You are gonna pay a lot for it, but it is so worth it. I order mine online, and I think I pay close to $50 for all the oil.
A LOT of guys & gals here run Amsoil. Most are like me, and will ONLY use Amsoil. I bet you could get in touch with Drew (Dr V-Twin), and he could square you away, depending where you live. Or go to Amsoil's website, and find your nearest dealer.
I have a 2000 Harley Davidson Deuce with a big bore kit.
Are all Harley Davidson motor oil filters the same part number ?
I would like to put a better than factory oil filter on the bike.
I'm going to run Mobil-1 V-Twin motor oil, and Mobil-1 gear oil.
Thanks,
Bobby.
revtech or drag specialty magnetic oil filter is o.k. & hi flo also. i use large round magnet i got from a friend & stuck it to end of filter (cheap mod).
as for oil, i use mobil 1 syn (engine 20/50 & trans 75/140 & primary 10/40 any dyno oil) from autozone, it's always available & decent $price.

There are two different PN's for the filter, but its only to tell the difference between the black and the chrome.
Inside they are the same so its just what you like to look at that makes a difference.
I and a fairly high number of others like to use Mobil 1 for V-Twins 20/50W in the engine and primary and Mobile 1 gear oil in the tranny. The viscosity rating for which should vary depending on where you live (how hot it gets) and how hard you are on it (are you trying to outrun crotch rockets all the time).
The Mobil oil may or may not be as good as Amsoil, that's a debatable issue we don't need to go into here.
But if your changing your oil and filter on a regular basis it will do its job as well as or better than anything else out there and it has the virtue of being a lot easier to find for a lower price.
