Default RE: why cancel the FLSTI ???

I know the "Chrome Consultant" at the Harley dealer here. This is what he and one of the salesmen told me.
The bottom line on the FLST is that they just weren't selling. H-D thought they would be like the FXST Standard, that they would be bought to customize. But when a potential buyer started adding up the accessories they wanted to ad, they realized they could simply buy the Heritage Classic or Deluxe.
I bought the FLST because I got a great buy, $14,900 otd except taxes. It included Red color, SE slipons and air cleaner. I bought the bike to ride, not customize. Since taking a beating on a '04 FXST that I had spent a ton on customizing, I have changed my attitude about ad-ons. If it isn't for comfort or performace, I don't want it. I have only added a few items that I already had, except for an engine guard with pegs and a detachable windshield, which I bought on Ebay. I have spent less than $500.00. Oh yea, I did change the rear turn signals and tail light to the unit like on the SE roadking because the stock one looks crappy without saddlebags, and that is included in the 500 bucks.
Don't get me wrong, this is just how I feel. I would never critisize someone for what they do to their bike.

That's a good point.. it was a pretty close to the "other brands" pricing to get into a big twin harley.. They were getting the bikes down into the lower teens.. It was affordable.

Exactly my attitude on customizing.. except for a couple chrome doodads like axle covers.. Just about everything I've done to or added to my fatty has been about riding.. Bars, bags, windshield, seat, lowering kit, cruise arm highway pegs. Can't bring myself to put anything on the bike just for 'looks'.. "bought this one to ride" has always been the motto. Although I'm thinking on the cheap, might go ahead and do the iso-grip/iso-peg thing to do something if anything to the foot controls.. And apes with internal wiring (but that's for both looks and riding). If I wanted custom.. it'd be an exile or ironhorse or some old scoot I saved from the crusher.

I love my bike and couldn't be more pleased to have gotten it when I did. It fits just perfect and I can do whatever I want to bling it out. We are going to be changing the rear light system too. I don't ever intend on putting saddlebags on it so no need to have the wide system back there.

They had to either lower the price a couple grand or add a lot more chrome. If it was chromed out it would be a nice looking bike.

I never really understood why they would offer a bike like that without the chrome. It would cost you a fortune to get it looking like a deluxe or heritage classic..so why not just buy one of those instead?

I would have bought a Honda or Yamaha before this bike. Just my opinion.

I liked it because of its clean looks, and the fact that everybody on the block didn't have one. In fact, went to our local dealer's grand opening last week... there were bikes lined up down both sides of the street as far as you could see, and I didn't see another one in the crowd. Makes it easier to find when I leave!

Buy a heritage classic. Strip the bags, windshield, backrest, spotlamps off and sell them on ebay brand new. You would be money ahead and still have the black powdercoated engine, with chrome covers and all. I'm just saying.............

On another note, owners of the flst have a pretty rare bike now.

I actually like the silver motor, although I am not crazy about the polished/clearcoated cases. Not worth the 800 bucs for the chrome engine kit. At least the cylinders have the fins finished like the black motor. I'm just happy they didn't use the powder coated cases like on the Standard. By the way, the CVO SE bikes all have the silver motor but with chrome cases.

Not to harp on it, but that's another thing I wish H-D would do that Victory offers.. A choice of engine colors.
I also like the cast engine but also like the chrome covers, unless going with a completely blacked out look.

I bought mine because it was at a good price for me, and I like the looks of it just the way it is.
It has a real retro look to me, just like the old bikes. I have had some people look at it and think it is an older model. I get lots of compliments on my bike, so I know its not just me that likes the look. But the fact is that when I went into most dealers they had a few of the FLST's sitting around, kind of like you see Sporters all the time. I guess they really didn't sell that well. I don't think the fact that they just made them one year will effect the resale at all. The NADA book on my bike is still what I paid for it. I like it and that's really all I care about anyway, its a good looking, good riding bike. I'm proud of mine.

Because if I wanted it to look like a Deluxe or Heritage Classic, I would have bought one! The best thing about my bike is that it's different that everyone else's. I'll go on rides where every other bike is a Classic or a Fatboy. I love the fat tires and the spoke wheels. The Black Cherry color and graphics are beautiful. It came stock with a quick detach seat and passenger pillion, so with my detachable sissy bar, I can ride solo or two-up in a matter of moments. I get compliments every time I take it somewhere. I didn't really care for the black engine on the Fatty or Classic. The Classic and the Deluxe tend to steer you down the "nostalgic" road when customizing, where the FLSTI is a blank pallet. I'm able to add subtle bits of chrome here and there and still keep it clean.
