Blue, got to admit I like the chrome bits. I thought about that as well, but for now I'm happy w/ my jar of Mother's polish. I would not be surprised if you see this model reintroduced in another five years for another anniversary, and perhaps marketed more aggressively as a nostalgia or limited edition. I have yet to see another bike I like more than my FLSTI. I didn't like the seat and bags on the Classic, and love the paint.
Everything is pretty easy. The only pain in the **** is the tranny top cover.......You have to take the oil tank out! Which means the battery, oil lines, and so on......If you don't have a service manual you will need to get one.......The kit is $560 online at Chicago HD. Or you can go to your stealer and tell them you can get it online at a 20% discount and they just might match the price......Also, you can sell your polished aluminum parts on ebay for $200-$300 and drop the cost down to $260-$360
Don't think about it , just do it. You will be more than happy about the decision.
I dunno.. if you start going down the chrome road, there's no turning back.. I've really started to become anti-chrome these days, unless you're going to go all out and just chrome out the whole dang scoot. Reason I'm doing my apes withOUT doing the chrome front end. It's all about the ride to me these days. Cast or Polished can be cool too! hehehe
You are correct, my problem was I sprayed "castrol super clean" on the aluminum and it turned black. I don't mind polishing but how do you polish the lifter blocks and the top of the rocker boxes? Chrome is pretty easy to clean.....

I got the O6 FLSTI because it did not look like a classic or fb on the floor. The dealer had installed several chrome goodies that really set the bike off and still kept the clean look. Plus there is still lots of room for me to do my thing to the bike or leave it alone. But like everyone has said, it what trips YOUR trigger, I love the classics and FB but FLSTI is the one I kept coming back too when I was shopping. I would post a pic but dont know how.
i like the idea of a blank canvas...nice bikes....oh and dont feel bad, its starting to look like the deuce is doomed too!!
H-D started the "you can start with a blank canvas" thing. What they were really thinking was "now we can sell a whole lot more chrome and accessories"
I bought one of those "blank canvases", an '04 FXST Standard, to do my own "custom". After spending a ton on billet and chrome, all I ended up with was a bike I was going to loose my butt on. We have all heard the saying that "chrome don't get you home". Well, someone told me a better one. "Who are you trying to impress? No one give a s..t what your bike looks like but you."
