Bought a 2006 fxsti. It has the silver colored motor. It has some stains on it. It looks as if the last owner spilled something on it, or maybe tried cleaning it with some cleaner that stained the engine. I managed to get some of it off with meguires, never dull, & Harley cleaners using a toothbrush. It looks alright but there's still some stains I can't get off. Also, the spoke rims are pitting a little. Used never dull but still not perfect. Anything else I can do, or am I stuck with a stained engine & pitted rim? Help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm curious about this as well. My Deluxe has the black/chrome motor, and when I was using some chrome polish on it, I got a bit on the black part. It didn't wash off very well, and I was wondering if there's anything I can do to remove it. There must be some gentle cleaning products out there that can help with the motor staining.
As far as the pitting though, my old 883 suffered from a ton of it on the rim. Nothing I tried seem to help it.
Don't know about the stains, but take some FINE steel wool to the pitted rims, won't fix it completly but will make it look better, the project I'm working on now had a decent amount of pitted chrome. I got ride of some chrome, but the rest like the miriors and switch housings I just used some FINE steel wool and a little bit of elbow grease with some music on in the background. looks a lot better but not new.
Its an good hard cleaner in a spray bottle that works well. You can get it from ace, true value, lowes, maybe pepboys places like that. I dont know id put it on paint but it works well on the engine/chrome. Thats what I use if for.
I had some Easy-Off marks on my engine (silver) from previous owner, you can order from the MoCo the original 'silver bead' paint in both spray and touch up.
I did mask other parts very well, spray from around 6 inches, with great results.
