My last 2 bikes were a 1986 FLT & a 2002 FLH. My current ride is a 2007 Softail Standard
FXST. The baggers are nice for the long rides but 90% of my riding is back & forth to work 17 miles. I replaced the stock seat with a super wide touring mustang seat that is super comfortable for the long trips. I have no regrets going to the softail. I enjoy the handling & the ride and to tell the truth I kinda wanted to get back to the basics: no radio, no windshield, a little shake, loud pipes, & if she wants to ride she has to sit on the fender cause i'm running a solo seat.
SG are nice bikes no dought, but I think (heritage) softtails are the cats meow... I think a Heritage is alot more practical then a SG IMO, you can remove the bags if you want to give it a cleaner look or saddle her up for a road trip. The retro style of the Heritage is timeless and very classic. They are so much easier to get around in. Come on over to the softer side, I think you'll like here in Softailville.
2010 Heritage and i have no faults whatsoever in it. Great ride and my wife and i have rode on several trips and run 75-85MPH with no problem, i personally like the counterbalanced motor on the ST bikes.
Did you come from a touring bike to this bike...The Heritage is a sweet ride for sure...My biggest problem is our size. I guess that would be fixed with restrictions at the mouth...LOL...The #1 plus for the Heritage is comfort...WOW sits, handles, balances all great...I would like to have one in the stable...And to top it off this bike looks great...I have put 53k miles on my touring FLHTC with some miles 2 up so i have to have the FLHTC. Maybe next year...we have just paid of the wifes Suzuki and will try to sell it out right to have a down payment...
Just traded in my dyna for a 2011 heritage. Was originally trading for a 2008 street glide. SG rode great and the stereo was a plus but i couldnt get used to the look of the fairing right now. Looks too futuristic. The softail has way more versitality as most are saying here. Also the ride is very smooth.
I have had my SG for a couple years now but feel like doing something different. I have never been totally in love with my bike comfort wise. I love the way the Heritage Softail feels, it just fits me so well. I just don't care for all the studs or the style of the bags. There is a dealer nearby with an 09 Heritage pewter in color. I may go have a look at it and see how I like it. If I can get an even trade I may consider it. Anyone else come from the touring family? People think I'm crazy to want to go to a softail from a touring bike.
You are not crazy. The Heritage is a very attractive bike and I happen to like all the studs. The studs and leather go together IMO and have been a part of this bike for many years. It is not in any way gay, as some other halfwit here stated. I guess if you don't like the studs, you could always change out the bags...personal preference I guess. This is a cosmetic change, which is easy to fix. The Heritage is a very comfortable bike and I am very happy with mine. The most important of all though, is how YOU feel about it.
I just put Touring bags on my softy and have the best of both worlds.
I will in the future most likely get a streetglide, but not until I have enough bills paid where I can keep the Fatboy. At that point I'll strip and slam the Fatboy for around town and bike shows and mount up the SG for road trips.
Both, works for me!!! If I could only have one HD though it would be RKC.
I toured all the western states on a RK and it was perfectly fine for that purpose.
Then you can take the windshield off and amke a beautiful blvd cruiser too.
Notgrownup--we are acually metric converts but we did rent bikes for the day before we made up our minds, and the Heritage won out and the road king was very close but i liked the lower sitting position of my bike, well it was just made for me!!!!

Yeah, I can see that move. Not everyone is L O N G limbed. The softail is a very comfortable frame, especially if you're built like me. Here, have a smoothy Deluxe . . . LoL
