I may go have a look at it and see how I like it. If I can get an even trade I may consider it. Anyone else come from the touring family? People think I'm crazy to want to go to a softail from a touring bike.
I rode Touring bikes since '04 and loved them. Trading to a '10 Streetglide I was not happy with the rear suspension. Way too Stiff. Traded to a heritage and liked it so much also bought a Crossbones. Happy with both. the ride is actually more cushy on the softails rear than the '09 and later touring machines. My brother did the same '09 Electra Glide Classic to Fatboy and my Friend went from an '09 Ultra Classic to a 2000 Heritage Springer . All because of the harshness H-D engineered into the rear suspension of the '09 and later touring models. Just not nearly the same as the '08 and earlier.

I was thinking of doing the same....Drove a Heritage for a full weekend while my bike was in the shop...Super comfy ride, smooth and soft feeling...I feel though for me that when i got to HWY speeds above 65 it wasn't as smooth as my touring...my hands eventually felt it...Space is a bit more limited. I decided to keep my FLHTC and but new bars on it, PCIII and will do cams....I would miss the radio, CB, intercom set up, Cruise can be installed i guess...Tour pack and saddle bags can be taken care of...Load capacity for me was another issue...My wife and i are rather big so load was a big factor, we couldn't fit well on the Heritage but for local rides solo man it is a sweet bike...i still may buy one later...

I know what you mean about the studs. I am not to crazy about that particular look. Hence I decided to buy a deluxe and equip it with bags that I like and a shield. its a bit more expensive to go that way but if I spend that much $$$$ I might as well get what makes me happy

I got both - a EGUC and a FL Springer Classic. I know this is the ST section and they obviously have a large following, including me; however I have no way of agreeing a ST is better as a ride than a touring model. Better looking, maybe, but not better riding, better handling, more versatile, more luggage capacity, more bells and whistles; no. />

Hey BigGdawg, nice springer you have there. On the other side of the coin, my Street Glide wouldn't be as nice of a ride as a your EGUC. The OP is comparing a SG to a heritage. I don't know if he tried different shocks or seat, but I agree with you, I have not rode a bike with better handling capabilities than my SG. It's all about the fairing, like 'em or, don't like 'em.

+1 on the Deluxe. We didn't really like the studs either so I found a used Deluxe (only 700 miles) and it came with the bags, windshield, pipes...everything I wanted! AND NO STUDS. They're the same bike (basically), so if you don't want the studs, get the Deluxe. It's about 1 inch lower than the Heritage, but if you want to raise it...you can.

Or you could remove the studs like TalldogsFatBob did: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...age-is-me.html

Thanks, bud! As you noted, the Touring bikes have the ride and handling. I don't like the short shocks on lowered models because I don't need the low seat and the harsh ride of the lowered bikes is the price people with short stature pay. Luckily I don't have that to worry about.

Went from an 06 SG to an 06 Heritage and would never go back. I also have a short inseam and the Softail fits better and handles better.

I have the '09 Electra Glide Standard, and will soon be trading it in on the '10 Heritage. The Heritage just fits me better. I too have a short inseam. I'll be adding the Signature Series seat, plus a few other items, to mine. That will definitely put my feet flat on the ground! I rode one at the dealer last week and absolutely love the bike.

2010 Heritage and i have no faults whatsoever in it. Great ride and my wife and i have rode on several trips and run 75-85MPH with no problem, i personally like the counterbalanced motor on the ST bikes.
