At 5 years I automatically replace the battery no matter how strong. Peace of mind. Had a recent battery drain issue and went through 3 in a month. I finally got it sorted out. Before I left for home from Las Vegas it was dead. I bought a new one as I did not want to be stranded in the middle of the desert.
Find an independant battery dealer and buy a battery there. Much cheaper than at HD. I recently had to replace mine and got a Made in USA, AGM, for 85 bucks out the door.
To make sure it was fully charged I hooked it up to a 12v charger for a few hours, then the battery tender overnight before I installed it.

Great advice why would anyone pay for those overpriced Harley batteries when they only last up to 10 years? Save money with an unknown quantity, that's the ticket! More money to spend on Kuryakin bling. I know you can get a Deka battery cheaper and they make them for Harley. The only issue is does Deka make their other batteries to Harley's specs. Me, I spend the money and get mine from Harley and have never had a premature battery failure.
started being slow on starts, but it came on over time and I didn't notice it as much.
then one day it just went,, click, click, click and that was it...
Glad I was home when she did.

That's what happened to me with the aftermarket one I put in. Difference was it only took about two years for it to crap out. Started turning over slower and the security light would light back up just before it fired up. Put it on the tender when I went back out on the road like I always do, came home a couple months later and it was deader than a doornail.
Well, I bought one from one of the catalogs. It got here quick enough. I went to put it in and found that the +/- poles were reversed. Sending it back. Went to H-D and bought one. I figure if I can get another 10 years out of this one, I'll be happy. I think I was just lucky with the original one, though.
