pull back riser and handle bar kit for night train
I have a 2006 FXSTBI. I ordered the Pullback Riser and Handlebar Kit for FXSTB Models (part#56029-00). According to the parts manual and the online catalog, you should be able to use the stock cables and lines with the new riser and bars. Well...the cables are too short and I can't figure out how to make them reach. Anyone have any experience with this?
That's odd, I put the same kit on my 2000 nightrain (previous bike) and had no issues. Which cables are too short? You may have to gently bend the brake line a little.
looks like I missed this by a few days, but I got the kit and put it on, no problems.....all my lines fit. the brake was a wee bit tight, but I got it all right
The electrical lines going thrue the triple clamp were too short for me to do myself but the dealer must know something I don't. They put my risers on without using new anything.
Thanks for all the info guys. I'll give it a try.

In case anyone searches this thread for info....here are the details for the install. The harley service line wouldn't talk me through it because of "liability issues" and the dealership played dumb. So I just tackled the project head on and finally got it to work. I figured I would pass along the knowledge gained through trial and error and help people save some money.
1. remove the left hand controls and clutch cable from the handlebar
2. remove the handlebar clamp
3. remove the right hand controls and brake cable from the handlebar
4. re-attach the handlebar clamp (this keeps the risers from turning while you are turning the
bolts that hold the riser to the upper front end) and remove the bolts from the bottom of the
risers
5. Use something to slide in between the left hand grip and the old bar. It is glued to the
bar…I used a coat hanger.
6. cut all the keepers around the wires and cables
7. the left hand controls run through a larger keeper the is right in front of the gas tank.
There are two (one on top of the other), cut the bottom one. This will free up enough
length for the controls to fit on the new bars
8. attach the handlebar clamp to the new risers and then attach the new risers to the upper
front end. Tighten just enough to be snug, but not as tight as they were from the factory.
You will need to adjust the position of the bars once everything is assembled
9. remove the handlebar clamp from the risers
10.attach the controls to the new bars. The angle of the brake line coming out of the
reservoir may have to be adjusted for the bake cable assembly to fit properly against the
new bars
11. attach the bars using the clamp. Once the bars and controls are in a comfortable
position, make sure ALL screws tight except the ones holding the risers to the upper front
end
12. the handle bar may not be lined up with the forks. If it’s not, have someone hold the front
tire and jerk the handle bars until they are lined up
13. turn one of the riser bolts a few times and then check the position of the handlebar. Then
turn the other bolt a few times and check the position again. Repeat this until both bolts
are tight
Hope this helps someone.

If you take the tank off you'll find a few more inches of wiring bundled up under there.I put 8" risers on mine without changing any wires.I also disconnected the wiring from under the tank and removed them from inside the triple tree and ran them with the brake line and the clutch cable.Simple unplug/plug back in.
