My first Harley was purchased in April of this year and it was also an '06 FLSTi. A very nice bike. A windscreen is a definite must for trips of any length greater than the end of your driveway. Go with one as tall as you can stand. Consider the following modifications in this order:

1) After market seat (e.g. Mustang, Ultimate, etc.)
2) 4-5" pullback risers if you find yourself sitting too upright or even leaning forward.
3) Rush slip-on mufflers to get a better sound than the stock mufflers.

Have fun. I am jealous since the riding season here in Michigan is pretty much over.

G'day,

Vinish

Lots of wind and 360 degrees of being out in the open even with a windshield.

The first rain storm you hit and have to "sit it out" without a windshield will convince you of the protection it can give. Not to mention the constant pelting of road dirt from vehicles in front of you and don't forget all the bugs I clean off my windshield would have clobbered me in the face instead.

I prefer a short windshield to a point. The Street Glide I vacationed with last year was just too short. Wind caught me even more so right in the face. My FLTC has just the perfect windshield for me.

I'd get one that is long enough to buffer the wind over your head. Short is nice on looks, but you'll regret it on the highway. Go with a taller one to be safe man. And make sure its a quick detachable. I found a nice one that needs to be bolted on, I thought, "What's a few bolts, 10 mins?" Now every time I want it off and on those 10 mins are a pain in the butt. Quick release and tall, you'll love it.

Congrats on the new family member! I got a 19" screen for my fatboy and it's perfect for me....I'm looking about 2" over the top of it. I just took a shot in the dark and it worked...not sure of an accurate way to measure for a proper screen. I don't like the way they look either but it makes a WORLD of difference (to me) if I'm riding more than a few miles or if I'm going to be going faster than 60mph....then for around town or short trips it takes 4.6 seconds to remove it.

From the side the windshield should top out right at the tip of your nose. Make sure you can at least stretch you neck a little and see over it. If you get caught in fog/rain you'll be in trouble with one too tall. Your dealer can help select one for sure.

Smile Windshield? Yes and No...

Congrats!!!
There have been several times I wish I had a shield on my bike. The wind is nice sometimes, but after a while, it gets tiresome. I would recommend a windshield, but definitely get a detachable kit. When you sit on the bike in your riding position, you want the top of the shield a couple inches below your line of sight, so you are actually looking over the shield and no throught it. It stills forces the wind over and around you, but you have a clear view of the road. You want to measure this height from about 1 inch above the headlight. Once you have the correct height for you in mind, take a look at what we offer.
