I have a 2004 FatBoy with 23K miles and a Tranny problem. I can shift from first to second gear but cannot shift from second to third. When using the front shift pedal, the shifter comes to a hard-stop in the 'up' position in second gear. When I try to lift the shift pedal to go into third, there is no upward movement whatsoever...just a hard-stop in the 'up' position. I can downshift to first gear and then back to second again, but that's it...no third gear, or fourth or fifth for that matter.
The problem started gradually while on a trip this summer. At first, I could downshift to first gear and then up through the rest of the gears after 1-2 tries...but finally it would not go past second gear.
There was no event that led to the problem...no strange noises...grinding or anything. I looked at the tranny info in the shop manual. I'm suspecting a shift fork problem or possibly the shift cam at the top of the tranny case(??). Third gear has 2 shift forks.
Anyone with a similar problem?? I'm getting ready to pull the top cover off the tranny and have a look.
Albert G, exact same problem here, have 1st and 2nd, shifter goes straight up, no 3rd 4th 5th.......anyone else had this problem and know what the fix is, would really appreciate some help.
