Default seat or bars for sore back?

I have noticed that when i ride for a little i end up hunched over and have to straighten up to relieve back pain. not enough deter riding, but enough that my wife notices me doing it. i am 6'3 and have a 02 heritage with stock bars and seat. i think that putting taller bars would make me sit up straighter, but my wife thinks getting a new seat, or sending it off to mean city might be the answer. has anyone experienced this? and if so how did you cure it? Thanks, GTG

Man i've had stocker/knuckles/beachbars all gave me back pain. I switched to apes and the pain is gone.

If you had a sore a$$ i would say switch the seat. But its your back, switch your bars.... good luck!

At your height, I think you're going to have to go with taller bars.
A seat that sits you lower would help also. So it's hard to say if one or the other would be the perfect ride for you.

You probably have stock risers on your bike. Get some 4.5 inch pullback risers. That will raise your bars to where you won't have to hunch over to reach them.

Those were on my '02 when I bought it earlier this year. It puts the bars at about the same height as my Sportster with mini-apes and 1.5 inch risers.

Taller bars and a seat that actually has some back support too. Do both and it will be a completely different ride. Seeing as your wife noticed this she should approve of both.

I dont have a softail but I had 12'' Minis that came with my bike and after a little bit of riding I would get that warm ache/pain in shoulders and back.

I just put on 16'' apes the other day, all gone. So much better.

Get apes. It helps out on the pain and just looks 10x better. Changes the bike tremendously.

Based on your description and height, I would say taller bars or more pullback on the bars. Bear in mind though, anything you do that causes you to sit up straighter or reach forward less, will shift weight onto your tailbone. Don't make too radical a change or you'll just swap one problem for another. GL!
