I have an 06 deluxe and really like the seat but have a sore tail bone at times. Not sure if I just can't relax or is it the seat. I didn't have any problems on my way home from Sturgis in August (2 days 950 miles) and recently we went on a shorter trip and the soreness is back. Maybe I need the long trip again!
I do prefer to sit in a stiffer/straighter chair versus a slouchy one and wonder if my sore tail bone is from the swooping style of the deluxe seat. If I were to spend the money on changing the seat, I would probably go for something with a backrest also.
Look forward to your seat experiences!
To all us northerners, get those miles in before the snow flies! The fall is an awesome time to ride so gear up and get out there!
I feel your pain in exactly the way you described....I will be going with the Corbin also...when I can afford it!!! Some have modified the stock seat by having an inch or two shaved off the part of the seat that meets your tailbone....Good luck what ever you do...
Sundowner is a good choice for driver and passanger if on a budget. Corbin's are all leather and have a proprietary foam. Really comfy - really pricey.
Its the shape of the seat. If you look closely the part where your tail bone sits is curved and makes a bad pressure point on it so you butt gets sore. You can take the seat apart and cut that part out and live happily ever after. I took my SG seat apart and did this and lowered myself on the bike and gave me a good back rest for the lower back also.
I had the same problem. The Deluxe seat is one of the best looking but it has very little back support. It allows your tail bone to move back and forth when you brake and when you accelerate.
I put on the Sundowner seat and the problem is eliminated. The high back give you the back support you need and holds you in place during braking and acceleration. Makes a big difference. It is not as pretty but it is functional at a reasonable price.
I am sure a $500-600+ Corbin or Mustang will have better padding for the long rides. So if your pocketbook allows you might look at what they offer. Its a sad thing that you spend 20K for a bike and have to toss the stock seat!

What he said. Wife had a real hard time with the stock setup. Sundowner is much better for both of us, note it is one piece. Lists for 325 and you might be able to get 20% off that. Good Luck
