Default New Heritage owner questions

Hey guys/gals
Picked up a '10 FLSTC and have a few questions. Is it possible to lower them front and rear? And what's up with the heat on my right leg. There's times where my pants smell like they're being ironed which means the meat underneath gets pretty hot. This didn't happen on my old Sporty.
Back to the lowering question. If it can be lowered is it a job for a shop or can it be done by a someone semi mechanical? And might as well ask how easy it is to install slipons? Sorry for the newb stuff but it's best to ask those that have been there done that. Thanks in advance.

As far as the heat thing I'm no help. Don't seem to have that problem and I've got lower wind deflectors. Lowering can be done with a lot of kits from Progressive, etc. but I'm 5'7 and flat footing is no problem for me. Lowering will reduce your cornering clearance. Not something I'm going to do. The front springs and/or rear shocks are not rocket science but not for the very first time mechanic either. BTW, a lift is absolutely necessary. As is a factory service manual.

I dont know about lowering it mine is fine, but the heat is a deal i had. I put a set of XIED's on mine and also a set of the Rush slipons helped it a lot. But still when im in traffic it gets hot. They make some heat shield for them but after i did those changes to it i can live with it. So far ive really enjoyed mine and seems to be very adaptible to any type of riding long or short runs. Congrats and enjoy hope this helps.

I installed a set of Vance Hines pipes and used Mastertune Software to richen things up a bit....That cooled mine down.
The bikes from the factory run lean to meet EPA emissions.

You need to change the air/fuel mixture to cool it down and a tuner and a new set of pipes along with an air cleaner will do wonders for this. For lowering there are plenty of options. Lowering springs in the front, and you can either get lowering bolts for the rear (rough ride) lowering shocks (better) or an air ride. I run the Shotgun shock on my bike but have chosen to leave the front stock height. I can get you call this stuff at a discounted forum pricing as well! Email me at DREW@DRVTWIN.COM

Man I can't help you but living and riding in the lower AL and FL panhandle is one reason I got an EVO she always stays pretty cool even in the Thunder Beach traffic. I'm sure if fallow the advice of having your fuel mixture adjusted you'll be fine, stay safe and ride.

My wife had her 07 lowered by changing the springs in the front fork and exchanging out the studs on the shocks. Lowered the front and rear 1 inch.

We are discussing making changes this winter. I will add a S.E.R.T , also a Stage 1 Air Cleaner and I believe a set of V&H Long Shots. We are considering also adding hard bags thats why we are using Long Shots. Good Luck.

Yeah, installing slipons are pretty straight forward. Having never done it, it took me a little over an hour to install my Rush ones. If I were to do it again It would take half the time.

Some tips: I have a motorcycle lift but if I were to do it again I would just leave it on the jiffy stand. The lift will get in your way and you have to get on the floor sometimes anyways. Do one muffler at a time, that way you can look at the other one if your not sure what goes where. Once you get the shields off there are just two bolts that hold the muffler to the frame. I reused the clamp with no problems oh, and I did not use a sealer. Pretty straight forward stuff.
