I have and 05 deluxe want to lower it some. I have pretty much decied on the progressive drop in kit up front. And was planing new shocks in back also. Dealer parts guy said I could put the lowering bolts in and that would do the trick. I didn't think that was right but you guys tell me.
Depends on your budget. You can buy the bolts for $20 off eBay and do it yourself, if you're mechanically inclined or you can spend all the way up to around $1500 for an air ride suspension system which gives you the ability to lower and lift (while riding) within about a 5 inch range, while also giving you the ability to adjust suspension stiffness anywhere within said range. You can also buy progressive shocks which fall in the mid-range at $400-$600 which can be used to raise and lower your bike within a limited range and also gives you a limited ability to adjust stiffness.
I know I don't want the air ride everyone I know that one say they ride like crap compare even to stock. I just didn't think the longer bolts harleys sells would work I for some reason thought thats what came on the deluxe.
"Everyone" you know is very under-informed and probably hasn't ever ridden a bike with a quality air ride system installed. Just do a search for Shotgun Shock here and about 10 threads will come up that bear rave reviews on product and ride quality. Indeed many of them say "worth every penny". There are also others out there that are far from crap.
The bolts do exactly as dealer tells you they will do. You can go over 2" lower than stock with the bolts, but the lower you go, the higher your chances of bottoming out and the ability to adjust shock stiffness on a lowered bike with stock shocks is very limited.
I DONT KNOW WHAT AIR RIDE YOU FRIENDS ARE MOBBING BUT FROM THE SOUNDS OF IT YOU GUYS ALL NEED TO GET THE SHOTGUN SHOCK, ITS THE BEST MOD DONE TO THE BIKE I JUST GOT IT AND IF I HAD TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN I WOULD BUY THE SHOTGUN SHOCK AIR RIDE FIRST. YOU CAN SET IT TO STOCK, SOFTER, OR FIRMER SETTINGS AT THE HEIGHT THAT YOU WANT SLAMMED RAISED OR AROUND STOCK. SEARCH THE SITE EVERYONE EITHER WANTS ONE OR HAS ONE I UPGRADED TO IT FROM A HI LO AIR RIDE, LOWERING KIT BEFORE THAT, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME GO SHOTGUN. IVE GOT THE PROGRESSIVE UPFRONT AND I LOVE HOW IT HANDLES. http://www.shotgunshock.com/
Well most people want admit they just pissed away two grand. Yeah it looks cool going up and down. But true be told told they don't ride as good. And sure if I spent that kind of cash on it I'd rave about it to. I have personally rode several, the progressive shocks ride better hands down. I have never ridden on any of the shotguns so maybe they are the one and only that ride good but I seriously doubt it.
