Awesome write up. Thanks for the info and pictures, I'm switching from drags to apes as soon as I can get some time. I'll definitely be using this thread as a reference. Did you figure out the clutch cable dilemma?
No, still working on it.
I'll be sure to post up when I get it figured out.
was able to take the cover off and replace the clutch cable without removing the pipes (pain in the *** though, as there was very little clearance to work with). Funny enough, threading the clutch cable into the trans cover was the most difficult part :-). Can't really check whether it's functional yet though, since the dealer ordered wrong wire extensions (too short), so I have to wait for different ones. The dealer ordered wire harness kit rt# 70234-07 (has anyone actually had one installed successfully with 16" apes?), 'cause he said it was gonna be easier to install. So I cut the original harnesses off, ran the cables inside the bars, soldered the harneses back, only to realize that the extensions in the kit are not long enough. Actually, the right side was fine, but apparently the left side stock wire must have been a couple of inches shorter :-( I'm thinking of just getting a new wired switch set at this point.
Finally got the clutch issue solved.
I just kept adjusting it until I got it right.
Guess I was just doing it wrong.
Anyway, I had a good time doing this mod (myself).
Saved a crapload of money.
This is why I love this site! I'm about to start my install, and not really looking forward to it.
I enjoyed doing the install. Just wish I would have waited til I had all the correct parts on hand before starting. The hard part for me was having the bike torn apart and having to wait for parts to arrive.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.
If you need help, you know where to come.
Great folks on here to help you along.
