It's remarkablys easy to get on the HD website or open up the parts catalog, find what you want, write it down, take it to the dealer and say "I want this," hand them the paper, get part, check part #, and go home with what you intended to go home with. When you rely on others you are more often than not dissappointed. Much better off relying on yourself.
i guess its like pops said if you wont something done right. do it yourself. wow get paid to not know ****
I had a kick *** parts guy at my dealer, would kill himself to get everything right and always got me 10% off. Was pretty sad the day I went in and he was gone.
nah thats what they get paid to do find my part numbers and give me the correct ****, you would get fired if you continually failed to do your job correctly i expect harley to abide by the same practice
In theory, I agree. Only difference is I (and hopefully you) get paid a premium wage for our skills/knowledge/education, while most guys behind the parts counter are likely near minimum wage.

CORRECT BUT SO DOES THE GUY WORKING AT WENDY'S, McDONALDS, AND BURGER KING, AND YOU EXPECT THEM NOT TO MESS UP YOUR ORDER AND WHEN THEY DO YOU EXPECT THEM TO CORRECT THEM. WHY SHOULD THE PARTS GUY BE ANY DIFFERENT? <-- THATS WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE MINIMUM WAGE ARGUEMENT, HE GETS PAID TO FLIP THROUGH A BOOK AND GET ME THE CORRECT PARTS FOR MY BIKE I EXPECT NO MORE AND NO LESS

Jesus dude. Unnecessary. Chill.
Wow.
Edit:
But to answer your question, when I do go to places such as the one's you mentioned, I do not expect them to get it right. I go to to those places expecting the worst and sadly, more often than not, my expectations are met. I make sure it get's corrected, but it shouldn't come to that.
Nothing wrong with the way you feel. Or the way I feel. You're what they call an "optimist," and i'm what they call a "pessimist." No big deal.
I saw a funny quote the other day. Something to the likes of "The pessimist is right as often as the optimist, but the optimist has more fun."

Must be contagious, had to get some simple parts for my bike, guy couldn't even find it in the manual, asked him to get the manual for my bike and showed him what I needed..... And I'm no genius by far.
Actually, Bobber is dead on bro, you were the one spoutin off making excuses for the jack legs because they are too incompetent to look up a part and write it down or order it. Minimum wage or not, they get paid money to do a job, if it aint done right, then shape up or ship out. I mean cmon, looking up a part isnt that hard now is it? And like Bobber said, they **** up your order at Mickey D's, they better make that **** right!!!

This is why I walk in with my own copy of the parts manual with the page and part number indicated
Last time I had to deal with the a parts guy I noticed he was new,,,asked him what he did before he started working at the dealer,,,,,he was a mail man
