Thanks man. I guess since I've torn my bike down replacing the trees and I'm waiting on parts, I'm gonna have to try this. Unless someone comes out with a kit first.

ok now the plug wires will cross and that looks gay so the plug you see abouve needs to have the 2 pins for front and back coil switched around its easy the manual tells in detail how to remove them all it takes is a straight pin and some patience. it took me 5 min max to do this but ive pulled lots apart for my current make over .also the 2 spacers could be 1 but i had these and used them. i originally used to nuts to back each side so it would bend or colapse when tightening up the center bolt that fastens the unit to the chrome bracket.i powder coated mine black because i can they were polished aluminiun

Would like to keep the horn in it's spot.
WOULD work even without raising the tank or making any other mods... would have to get the right length spark plug wires.

Very nice write up colonelangus1. I think you convinced me to do this mod. Looks really cool! A couple of questions, though. Did you have to lengthen any wires to get the plug to fit in the coil? Where did you end up putting your horn? How tough was it getting the post out? So the post isn't really a support for anything? Appreciate your help.

Hey Story,

I've been wanting to do this as well but thinking of how it look with the coil on a carbed bike.
The spark plug wires are off centered compared to an EFI so I was thinking it would look a little off mounting it where the horn goes.
I've called a couple of coil places looking for one that looks like an FXR design
but not luck.
Now just thinking of hiding the coil under the tank.
What are your thoughts?
Heres the comparison.

Carbed

EFI

FXR style (no luck finding one that is a compatible fit for my 05)

Very Nice. I see you had to bevel the bolt heads, I guess for clearance issues.

You would need new wires to make it look right no matter where you relocate the coil to... behind the horn cover or under the tank.

Making new wires won't be a problem. More concerned with the way it would look.
Was looking to do something like Chad Pickens or TX's coil where the spark plug wires look proportional.
The the carbed coil , one spark plug wire would will be off centered.
