Default E.F.I. to carb conversion plus

I have a 2004 FI softail I want to change to carb so I can rid myself of the FI pump and filter set-up plus the other electronic crap I can get rid of. Any good ideas? I am aware of the AAM-P3 ignition module and an S&S super B carb mod. Has anybody used the aforementioned system?
Also (the plus part) I would like to completely disable the alarm system for good, as in completely remove it from the system. Anybody?
Thanks for all knowledgeable replies to this thread and please........no opinions on why I would want to chuck my EFI or my alarm.

It can be done, check with an experienced tech. The friend of mine that did this used all Harley parts just to keep it simple. It wasn't cheap. I don't know about disabling or removing the alarm system.

why not just sell the bike and get a older one with out all the [ crap ] , I just traded off a 97 Heritage and bought a 04 Heritage to get all that stuff , except the alarm , so it would start better for the wife , its her bike

It's an easy conversion... just involves getting the right parts. Find an exploded view of a carbed bike and compare it to an exploded view of a FI bike. Just disable the alarm system by pulling the fuse.

Thanks for your input handyhoward, mikey 1450. I travel all over the usa (over 20,000mi this summer alone) and don't like the idea of not being able to fix my bike on the side of the road. Fuel pump anyone? Or how about that really expensive fuel filter that just got clogged w/ crap from that middle of nowhere gas station? Or how about clogged or burnt injectors or a sensor that took a ****? All this kind of stuff is really fun when you can't get what you need for 2 weeks.
Got the bike w/ the alarm supposedly disabled-until the spare key w/ the fob locked me out of my bike at a rest stop in the middle of nowhere w/ no cell signal. That was a fun fix.
I can and do work on my own bikes. Injection is nice, but not in the middle of nowhere's when it breaks. Case in point, I think my injectors fried last night leaving a relatives house- luckily only a three block push.
So I want carburated. Period. Any more carb mod ideas or references would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the input.

Thanks Doc for the info. Has anybody done an S&S super b carb w/ harley's carb harness? Will it work? Ignition tuners needed? Has anybody had any experience w/ the AAAm-P3 tuner or the maker of it and where to get it?

1st 96 ultra- the bike has quite a bit of customizing done- 180 heartland rear kit, custom seat w/ stretched tank, choppers inc. risers and bars, etc. Getting rid of my chop is not an option. When the bike is so wore out that there ain't **** worth salvaging and the motor's gone, then I'll get another bike. This is my first efi and I don't care for the efi aspect of it. To each their own.

I did this conversion myself a while back and never regretted it. There are a couple ways to do it. I didnt go the AAMP route becuase Im cheap but the cheap way ended up costing as much if not more, so its really up to you. Im going to try and go over some of the details but I'm sure I'll forget something it's been so long. You'll need an aftermarket ignition set up for a carb bike (you can use a take off factory one but you'll need to take it to a dealer to sync it to your bike), 16 pin delphi connector and pins from the dealer to connect to the ignition module, carb (duh I just used a take off CV I bought on ebay) and manifold, carb motor mount to hang your choke cable, pingle petcock adapter or a carb tank (Im using frisco mounted sporty), and the most important thing...factory service manual for your specific yr bike. Don't get a general manual because the electrics are different for 2003 and older. Trust me I know this. Next open the manual up to the electrical connections diagrams in the back pages. What your going to do is compare the wiring from the efi to carb bikes. You'll notice that all the wiring colors and functions are the same between the two, there's just bunch of extra wiring for the efi. Now the tough part, start pulling all of the common wires from your 36 pin efi module connector and put em aside to wire up to the carb ignition module (refer to the manual for the pin positions). The wires and sensors you don't need you can either pull em or tie em off. Either way you'll end with a ton of them, I yanked em all off. Now the long part, start mating the common wires to the pins, you'll need a special crimper (~$200) to crimp them perfectly. Or if youre cheap like me you'll use a $2 crimper and spend a half hr on each pin to get them almost perfect. I'm getting tired so the short of it. Connect the right wires to the 18 pin connector plug it into the new ignition module, swap out the manifolds and throttle body to the carb stuff, swap out the motor mount, swap out the tank or add the pingel adapter and your done. I'm sure I missed a ton of stuff but you get the jist. If you want to hit me up on email I made a spreadsheet of all the wire colors and all the steps required to do it. I just need to find it.

Good job & very "didactical" dubless !!!
So in France i find a special home made "Convert-KIt", but a little expensive.
Mikuni carb (I prefere S&S), manifold, pingel and other stuff..
So for an idee the link of the dealer :
http://www.bigjack-cycle.com/referen...ference=587840
And picture of the kit :

In Europe, there's many bikers who are interested by a return to the carburator with the benefit of the 96'..!
