Right now I keep it in a grifter box on the plate, but with the softbrake coming I don't think I want to keep the grifter box
I'm not sure they are totally waterproof for putting papers in. Bad storms happen.

My SIG fits in there, but I don't understand why you left the box keyed with a blank. How can you be able to pay top dollar for an HD part and not pay the $20 or so to have it rekeyed so only YOUR bike key fits it?

Just wondering.
Not sure I'd be real comfortable about storing something of great value, on a bike that's already a target for thieves. Once in their garage, your new key won't be an obstacle for them.

Nobody gonna be stealing insurance papers or a few wrenches. They are gonna be looking at the bigger saddlebags for a nice leather, or the bike itself.

Worrying too much. Keep ins papers, reg., some tools, some cash just in case. Some one will steal my helmet, the gf's $300 helmet, our jackets laying on the bike, way before rifling through a little tool box.

Keep ins, reg papers and the cash in a plastic baggy to keep dry.

Good point.

Also, seems like H-Ds get a little more respect and people don't mess with them like they would a metric bike.

Makes sense...if you were caught in the act, who would you rather face off against - a burly biker or a squid on a rice rocket?

I keep the basic paperwork in mine inside a ziplock bag. I have had my lock open up (exc. vib) on me while riding needless to say my tool kit went bouncing down the road.

You can get a real key lock for it in any hardware store - Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. or others have taken theirs to a locksmith to get a lock that matches their ignition key. Takes about a minute to replace the lock.

I bought a replacement tubular lock off of Ebay for mine; around $7 and 5 min to change. I have two different keys now, but it won't vibrate open as others have mentioned.

Kozy22

I live in the BEAUTIFUL CITY OF FALL RIVER and I keep mine in my toolbox inside a zip-lock bag. If I don't worry about it you shouldn't.
