Default risers

I am thinking of putting six inch risers on my Fat Boy, has any one down this and how does it change the handling feel?

I don't think you can get 6" risers on a stock FB without changing at least the clutch cable and lenghtening the wiring. I tried to put 3" Drag Specialities Buffallo Risers on my bike and the wiring was too tight, pulling up under the tank. Ended up changing the bars to Wild 1 504s and am very happy.

I think the longest risers you can run with stock cables is 4 or 4.5". I went with a 4" riser with pullback and man what a difference! At 5'9" i can finally reach the handle bar without hunching forward. The risers are easy to change out but make sure to use a torque wrench on the bolts. I didn't and had one slowly work loose. Not a big deal but I checked them regularly for a few days and found the slop.

With the 4" I merely rerouted the cables, rebent the brake line and remounted it on the tin with the bracket the opposite way, and the wires still had plenty of slack once I pulled through a little.

Thanks guys, I wasn't looking forward to having to replace all the cables etc. Lawdog did you use the Harley risers or another brand? I like the way the FB handles did changing the risers affect the leverage on the bars much?

I went from stock to 4.5"
then from 4.5" to 6.5"
then from 6.5" to now 9"

And yes you have to replace cables, except for the throttle.
I have drag bars, hard to describe the difference between drags and OEM's but the drags feel like you have better control in turns.

Meaning that the drags offer less leverage but more "feel" and the handlings a bit more precise ?

I went with the 4 1/2's and it made all the difference in the world. No more shoulder pain, stiff arms, neck pain gone, and very comfortable. I did it myself and I feel that it is the max when it comes to stretching the wiring and cables. It worked fine but I know I couldn't go any higher without changing the cables. Do the risers. You won't regret it.

I bought a set off ebay. Not HD but aftermarket. Good chrome shine, no discoloration, not too bad quality from China.

The pullback and rise makes it much more comfortable as you are no longer hunched forward to reach the bars. I didn't notice any difference between 4" and stock risers. Both turn the same, handle the same, just a much more comfortable ride.

They also don't stand out and scream not stock like a set of bars would. A very subtle effect for more comfort.

I think I spent $70 on ebay and took a couple of hours to install. It was a high priority on the comfort list.

That's a good way to put it. I feel (felt) like I have more control. I've had them on a couple years now so I can't remember how the OEM's felt. When I go into turns and counterpush in the direction I'm tracking, it feels more solid.
