Default Help with a windshield

05 Fatboy
Never had a shield in 30 years of riding and now I bought an HD detachable 21 inch shield. I hate the damn thing because I have to look THROUGH it. I want to find something that is a few inches shorter. HD has an 18 inch deal that will fit the brackets I have. Are there any other choices out there? I figure the 18 inch will allow me to look over it. I may just take it off all together, but it is nice on those really cold mornings.
Looking for some options that will fit the HD frame and hardware that I have.
Thanks MikeM

Their are threads complete with showing you how to cut and shorten them. Not that difficult. Several people have done it. Try searching. I also prefer looking over it. Rule of thumb is the shield height should be between your chin and nose. You will be looking over the shield, be protected, and the wind will go over your head and face.

Before you cut it down, you may want to give it a chance as is. When I need to use the shield at all...I do look through mine. I find that it gives me better wind protection and better protection from debris. If you're really only planning on using it sparingly anyway, you may want to just give the full size another chance before you cut it down. However if you decide to cut it down, it's a simple thing to do. No need to change it for another shield or get rid of it entirely. Good luck.

just a thought with a lower windshield you may get a lot of buffeting at high speeds i found that to be the case with my last shield so this time around ive gone to the king size model

Default wind

I agree with JGB when i bought mine the stealer offered to cut it down. i decided to try it as is. I never dreamed i would use the windshied so much. once you get use to one its hard to take it off. I never did cut mine down to date. give it a chance and see what happens.

Not familiar with the setup, but I'm looking at getting the 21" detachable for a cross country trip in the spring.

I there no adjustment to the height? Can you play with the brackets or something to bring it up or down any?

Ditto on that I like the extra protection of the higher shield.

The shield fits great but there is no adjustment. I dont like the distortion and sometimes glare that comes from looking through it. I guess if I was a couple of inches taller (I am 5,11") it would be OK. I would rather not use it, but again its nice on those cold mornings. I was thinking about cutting it down but it seems like a real chore. KlockWerks has a nice shield with a lip on it but its still too tall. I think I will look for something shorter unless I can find someone to cut it down. I dont have the time or the tools.
A word of advice, go to the dealer and sit on a couple of bikes.
