the reason for the drop in softail sales is due to the fact that the night train is no longer in production......

Buy an older bike and just enjoy the ride.... There were a lot of buyers paying with plastic in the past ten years and that only made the resale of those bikes drop to nothing. You can go out and find 100 (2000 and newer) bikes for sale on any given day but try to look for a good running 80's bike or 90's bike. Those of us that still have em love em because you can feel the ride under you.

I'm "old enough" for a touring bike (upper 50's), but nothing looks as good as a Heritage, and it rides like a dream, whether riding to work every week or cross country. My 22 year old son swears he'll never part with his '07 Wide Glide and my 26 year old loves his police Road King - maybe there's hope for the future! (Mom rides the trike)

Seems to be a function of boomers getting older. My dealer has a ton of used touring bikes for sale, and they told me it was older guys getting a new bike every 2-3 years, just like in the 60's with muscle cars. Same dynamic. Glut of touring bikes in about 5 years should produce some really good values, if that's the scoot ya want.

What do you guys think of that?
i think he is blowing wind up your shorts..sportys sell way more than any other model ..i would agree that touring bikes sell more than softails but them numbers are incorrect ..

I for one am one of those that likes to go against the grain. I have a 09 Ultra for the last two years and am trading it in on a 11 Fatboy Lo. There giving me $1000 over trade in value and selling the Lo to me for $1000 below MSRP and thats out the door. Just got tired of dragging all the weight around town for mostly short rides. Besides, Im 37 and just wanted something a little more fun for the majority type of riding I do. Either way, there just numbers, Ill ride what the hell i wont, no matter what the stealer says.

I've no idea what they're into these days..besides cell phones....and face book..
They'd rather play a video game about riding a Harley or riding a Harley in a street gang than to actually go outside of the house and try it.
