Thanks all. I'll take care of it thus weekend. On a 97 Heritage do you have to take off the wheel to get at the drain plugs or just raise off the ground?

Let me be the first to say this... get a service manual or find a friend who works on his or her own bike and it runs...LOL The forks have a drain plug in them on the lower back side. The reason to jack the bike up is to take the weight off the forks so that as they drain the fluid is allowed to flow down and out.

my '02 clunked under aggressive front braking from the day i bought it up to last year.
what solved it for me was increasing the torque on the steering stem nut.
i beleive harley increased the torque spec. on newer models. i can't recall the actual torque values though.

my bet would be that or the steering stem bearings need adjustment or replacement.

low fork oil level isn't likely the culpruit. although changing it out for fresh stuff would be a godd idea.
