Cool Changing fork oil

A lot of folks have stated how surprised they be when saw how bad their fork oil looked so gonna do my Heritage with 2,500 miles on bike. Glad I did since it looked nasty.Just black but no particles in it so maybe not to judge by color. Gonna list items I needed.
Service Manual $66. J&S Motorcycle Jack $339. Oil pan drain $32. Shipping $60. Used the fork job to justify getting jack now because best way to safely get wheel off the floor. Was gonna get one later sometime. Outstanding jack & good folks to deal with. Fork tube nut short socket @1&3/8" so not need to remove bars using normal length socket & will be able to torque nuts. $20. Chrome fork nut cover kit to cover damaged nut because trying to use improper tool to remove 'em. $54.
2 drain screws w/washers $5.50. 2 oil seals $2.50. Screamin' Eagle fork oil $12. Total $591. 4 band aids & xtra meds. Weather too bad to test ride for couple of days.

Its good to have the manual and equipment you listed. But on a FL Softal since the fork caps dont release spring tension it is an easy change to do on the ground.

All you need is new drain screws and washers (6.00) and O Rings for the caps (2.50) plus SE fork oil (12.50). A cresent wrench and cover the jaw with a strip of electrical tape (so you dont scrach the caps) the fork caps are not very tight and can easily be removed. since they dont have spring tension under them, if the drain plugs are tight use vice grips on them since you have new ones to replace. Remove the top caps and drain plugs allow to drain , sometimes it helps to pump the forks.

Total cost 21.00 and 30 -45 min time.

I need to do mine soon. Did you measure the amount of oil drained, so not to overfill?

Cool amount of fork oil

I warmed the legs with a heat gun and drained each for a couple of hours & resisted the urge to flush 'em with fresh oil & each leg came out 13.4 ounces & that is what I refilled with as Service Manual states. The reason I put just a small nick on one top nut, I tried the tape on cresent wrench, a large adjustable pliars, & large vise grips & unable to break 'em loose & no damage to nuts. Unable to locate a boxed 1&3/8 wrench so got an open end!! and that is the one that slipped. Not much damage but I knew it was there & was gonna buy 1 new one until I saw the three piece cover set. I still wanted a socket so I could torque 'em. Can't help myself. You posted good instructions on this procedure which I bet some folks can use. My top nuts were so tight even with the 24" open wrench I had to use a hammer to loosen 'em !
Uh, how did you guys reply to this since one feller said no one could read it ?

Easy by quoting it first so we can read it in a MAN's font. Damn, man that is the fruitiest font yet.

Thank God that quoting it puts it back to 12 point Roman font.
