Bottom line in all honesty is take notice to the new bikes harly is building.. they all have less medal ,less crome ,simpler components "striped down". Basicaly their making them cheaper and selling them for top coin! Good example is looked when the street bob first came out! Nice bike until they revamped it cut the fender and put the cheaper grey engine on it! Something as simple as useing a smaller fender (less medal) saves them money!!! Look at the blackline dosent look like it has a consle looks like the old superglide did! Just a basic bike that harley will sell for top coin!

Check out some of the mc blogs like pipeburn, bikeexif, etc. It seems that the trend is toward simpler bikes with less chrome. Is harley in a conspiracy with everyone else?
Or is harley just a few years behind what innovative people are doing on their own?
I also think that a LOT of people, myself included, only got involved with harley because we WANTED a basic bike without all the chrome and tassles and conchos and we wanted to pay a reasonable ammount of money for it... hence, the iron 883 and nightster.
Will I "move up" and buy a Dyna? maybe a street bob... but for 500 dollars more I can get an oil cooled, bigger engine in the new victory High Ball....
then again, I'm not harley's target demographic anyway, so maybe they don't care anyhow.
I guess I'm the minority, but I like it. Am I going to trade in my Train for one? No. Will I check out the new pieces to see if I want to bastardize 'em for my bike? Probably.
One thing I can tell is, its not just harley trying to go minimalist and retro, look at all the american car makers... I work for Dodge, and with the Challenger that came out in 08' and the new charger just coming out. Everybody is trying to go back to the retro look. with bikes and muscle cars. Ford and GM are following suit. All three of the muscle cars have just killed it in sales, so i would imagine that the MoCo is trying to get their piece of the pie.
Now about the bike: I wouldnt imagine getting rid of my train for it, but im sure it will take off better than the rocker or bones. I can't get enough black on my bike, and I just sent my lower forks off to PC so i'm sure something as small as making them black from factory will draw some peoples attention. that and leaving off all the unnecessary badges and chrome. just my .02!

Listen im all for simpler bikes! I own a 09 night train 08 street bob, and thinking of trading my Train for a Crossbones!! But the prices they charge us for these bikes is just plain rediculous! Slap in the face rediculous!
