Default Memphis Shades & my fork tubes

Just received my Memhis Shades windshield and I'm a little worried about the brackets scratching my fork tubes. I won't need/want the windshield on during the summer (or winter when it's warm) and wouldn't want the ugly brackets on there all the time. I'm worried about them scratching my fork tubes with the on and off. Has anyone had a problem with this? I saved quite a bit over the H-D quick detatch but, now that it's too late, I'm wondering if that wasn't a better idea since those brackets don't stay on the bike when you remove the windshield.

It's the catch 22 that we all face with the ability to convert to another look or style. Every time you make a change you risk leaving your mark.

Personally I like the HD shield better, but the wife has a fork mounted MS screen and it DOES leave marks. I don't know if it is from the on and off as much as just a slight movement when she rides. I think that style mount is just going to leave a mark. That said, they will buff out, its just A LOT of work.

Is there any adjustment to the jaw opening of the clamps? If so, you could stick a piece of sheet gasket material in there, or maybe cut out some small pieces of rubber from a bicycle tube repair kit.

Ditto. I cut strips from an old bike innertube that I had to replace. I always keep an innertube around for cutting rubber gaskets.

Using some kind of gasket sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the responses.
