I think it all comes down to the individual officer.

Here in ky, there's no helmet law, no ape hanger law (that i'm aware of), turn signals are not necessary at least in my town (as told by sheriff).
I used to ride through tennessee on an almost weekly basis & only wore a helmet (i borrowed - don't own one) once, but never got pulled over for it. Same story for the short time i lived in florida (graceville & pcb). Maybe they didn't hassle me cuz i had KY plates?

Vertical mounted plates ARE legal in Florida... the law that was passed making them illegal was repealed. Besides, if your bike is legal in the state that it is registered in... then as a guest in another state it is also legal. I ride all over the USA and Canada with a vertically mounted license plate with no problems at all.

Bingo! I had a little trouble last year in Concord when I had my ape hangers put on. Barney stopped me and insisted that my bars were taller than the legal limit. I didnt argue with him, I just let him do what he thought he needed to do.
See the law in NC isnt very specific about bar height, it just says the operator should be able to maintain control of the vehicle. The judge ended up going outside and watching me ride around the parking lot for a minute and threw it out. Made barney look like a jackwagon, he was fuming.
There is no law in NC about side mount plates, let barney do his job and then when you waste your time in court ask the judge to produce the law against it.

Uh... forgot to mention that license plate trim bands (the chrome rings that cover up the state name and plate dates) are now illegal though. You have to be able to see the whole plate from the blue line around the outside of the plate inward all has to be visable.

This is the part they can get you on ANYWHERE. If your tag is axle mounted, it is considered obscured. If you have axle mounted tag, apes, no turn signals, no mirrors, non-dot helmet, etc and you actually ride your bike, sooner or later you are going to get a ticket...Get over it

FL316.2085(3) The license tag of a motorcycle or moped must be permanently affixed to the vehicle and may not be adjusted or capable of being flipped up. No device for or method of concealing or obscuring the legibility of the license tag of a motorcycle shall be installed or used.

Axle mount if fixed and viewable from the back is NOT considered obscured in the state of FL... this section covers flip up mounts... and plate covers such as tinted plastic.

FL law states simply... No higher than top of shoulders of the operator when seated upon the motorcycle.

Turn signals are not required in Fl... however hand signals indicating a turn are required if no turn signals.

Know your state laws... do not rely on others to tell you what is and is not legal.

There are many loopholes in any law. And those loopholes can go both ways.

There is also a loophole law that allows a biker to turn left on solid red light or red arrow. I don't know the exact guidelines, but its there in case you are at a light where the sensor does not acknowledge your bike as a vehicle.

Yeah in SC we have the law that allows you to go through a red light assuming there is no trafic coming and you wait a minute or so
