How about this for BS!
Most folks ride in many different states during the course of a year. All tickets are at "officers discretion" so even if you are technically right, you still get a ticket...and if you want to fight it you have to take off work...no way to win money-wise. I know a girl who got a ticket with a factory side mounted plate on a sporty.
Any everybody knows they have a quota to meet every month. So, its real easy to spot bikers. Not sayin they prey on us. Just irritates me when theres something else they could be doin, JMHO

...........
I have one and I havent had any issues when I ride. I also dont have rear turn signals but i'm putting some on fairly soon.
vertical plates are illegal in ohio..a lot of sportbikes tuck the plate up under the fender sideways to "clean up the lines" actually it is so it is hard to find the plate when running. guess they got fedup with it and decided to start enforcing the law on all bikes
This is the part they can get you on ANYWHERE. If your tag is axle mounted, it is considered obscured. If you have axle mounted tag, apes, no turn signals, no mirrors, non-dot helmet, etc and you actually ride your bike, sooner or later you are going to get a ticket...Get over it
Got popped last year for my side mount plate buy the state police that told me he could not see my plate. He changed his tune after I told him I saw him coming head on then doing a u turn then pulling me over and me asking how he would ever see my plate from head on.
As far as the DOT helmets seems like here in DE there were a bunch that got tickets for not having DOT helmets. That group went to court and won buy asking "what is a DOT helmet". Seems there are no clear determinations as to what makes a DOT a DOT. It is now being discussed and worked out still I think. I will see if I can find the articles.

Just to be clear why i started this thread, i'm not bashing cops, i work with them everyday as a firefighter. I was just commenting on how you can run across a Barney Fife with a chip on his shoulder, weather it be the town or individual cop. Either way, yea it pisses me off, especially if its stupid sh$t they cant enforce or are not sure about themselves like the whole DOT helmet law. Thats why I pointed out about the State Troopers that i got there opinion on. Either way, its cool to hear the experiences ya'll have had, keep it up. Thanks
I would say this as fellow NC resident: as long as you don't stop for a beer every now and then, don't have a fattie in your pocket or a 1911 under your vest and wear a DOT helmet you could probably stand up to Barney over the license plate. If you got some other things going on, it could snowball quickly.
