Default flush mount gas cap, not flush

I recently ordered a flush mount gas cap / fuel gauge from Harley. The problem is, the gas cap is far from flush. Has anyone had this problem? I got the parts new from fleabay.

From the photo, it doesn't look like the cap is aligned properly or going in straight. And no, I haven't had that problem with my black version of the HD cap.

That's fully tightened, and with cap pressed in, and locked into place

I just installed one on my wife's FatBoy. I fit perfect. When installing, I set everything and marked it to be sure it was centered before I taped it down. If it's not centered, it doesn't work well. Would it close before it was installed?

I just tried to do a fit up, before actually putting it on permanantley. the trim ring is just sitting on there to show the gap. The gas cap was bottomed out, and not cross threaded.

Are you sure you got the correct part? HD makes different versions.

when the cap it tight did you push down and go approx 1/4 turn? you don't want to tighten it too much or you will break it. The pic with it in looks like mine beofre the push and turn. Just saying read the instructions!

Yeah, I tightend it as tight as I could, then pressed the cap down and and locked the cap. That is what you see.

I looked at the part on Harley's web site, and the only difference in the number was one said 08a, and one said 08b. I contacted the seller before buying, and they said it would work out. I guess not.
