Yeah, I tightend it as tight as I could, then pressed the cap down and and locked the cap. That is what you see.
I looked at the part on Harley's web site, and the only difference in the number was one said 08a, and one said 08b. I contacted the seller before buying, and they said it would work out. I guess not.
The letter next to the part number only means there was a revision to the part.

I have an 09 fatboy and ordered same part from squealer and mine is doing the same as yours. Seems like doesn't screw down far enough. Took it back to dealer and tried on 2010 fatboy tank it work. Went back and 3 different people tried with same results, not flush. Dont understand why flush mount cap is longer than stock. It only takes 2 half turns before cap is tight i'm clueless.
Looks like you've got the wrong gas cap. The collar is too long and it bottoms out on the lip in the fill hole. From the O ring down, the collar should be the same length as your original cap. I have the 62818-08A "Fits 08-Later Softail Models (Except FXCW and FXCWC). Fits really well on my 08 Fat Boy. I compared mine to the pictures of yours and confirmed yours has extra length at the bottom.
