I think i'm going to go with the slip in inserts for now like you recommend. Maybe next year i'll send my bags to gotsaggybags to have the permanent inserts installed.
but, I am torn between the KAMCO inserts that come with the lid supports as well, and the Bagshapers inserts that don't come with lid supports, but purportedly use a better material for the inserts (HDPE for bagshapers vs ABS for KAMCO.)
both approx same price, though if I buy the KAMCO set with the inserts, that will be a bit more. Both you, and the gentleman, "dave" ,from bagshapers both have said that the lid supports aren't really necessary.
thoughts? why KAMCO over Bagshapers, and vice versa. Inserts or not?
I want to pull the trigger on these tomorrow, as that is when KAMCO will list new inserts, but want to make the best choice possible.
Kamco(Keith) is a personal friend of mine. He's hardworking and stands by his product 100%. I know of probably 100 members in the HSOA(Heritage Springer Owners Association) that use his inserts and not one has ever had an issue with fit or finish.
I know of no one that has used the bag shapers products.
You'll be impressed with the fit and form rob. Kamco's inserts made a big difference on my hertiage springer bags too. They really make a huge difference when you go to apply leather conditioner too. I'd bet they cut the job time almost in half, since there is a solid base under the leather. No more trying to apply tensions while conditioning. You won't have that "where are my other 6 arms for this job" feeling . I installed the lid supports on mine, and they make life a little easier when trying to keep the buckles from hitting the paint on opening fully. Definitely post some pics!!
Got my Kamco inserts yesterday. Went down to the shop where my bike is still in storage and we put them in the bags. They fit perfectly. Very happy with these. I didn't bother with the lid inserts as it really doesn't seem necessary.
