Here’s a couple shots of my scooter after I was rear-ended at an intersection.
The impact knocked myself off the back which sent my bike sliding though the intersection on its left side.
It didnt help with the impact but there's no question the engine guard took most of the damage during the slide. In fact, it saved the front fender, fuel tank and primary.
So…are they worth it? I think so.
Plus they make a great place to stretch my legs on a long trip.
I bought my "Mustache" after dropping the bike in the garage. Had a couple beers and was moving the bike (engine not running) when my foot got caught in a water hose.
(Not the 1st time that drinking beer, my hose, and bad timing got me in trouble...)
Damage - Scratches in derby cover, blinkers, mirrors,. Small dent in tank just above the badge.
I've heard numerous stories of riders going down and not only did the crash bars keep the bike from getting totaled, saved the riders ***. As I stated earlier, everybody drops their bike eventually. When you are with a group acting stupid and you drop it, at least the crash bars minimize the damage and embarassment. Besides, they don't allow the bike to go completely over which make it very easy to get back up.
There's a shocker, an idiot talking on the phone hitting a motorcycle. I probably would not have the restraint that you did, I probably would have hit him anyway. People on phones while driving is one of my biggest pet peeves.
