I have an 05 Standard in Chopper Blue. I love the color but the HD on the tank is a little plain. Does anyone know if this is a decal under clearcoat or is it actually painted on? If it is a decal can anyone share how it was removed and if there was a mark on the tank when removed. I am considering custom paint but for now I like the blue. Any help would be appreciated.
It is a decal under the paint. I wasn't crazy about my decal either on my 05' Standard (mine was black w/ red decal). I started to research some older tank emblems (metal ones), but never really seriously pursued it enough. Couldn't really find a style that I liked, that was big enough to cover it anyway. Might want to look around though if that's something you'd consider. Some were adhesive, some required manual attachment........
I was not very fond of the decal on mine. A friend stripped his (03' Standard) tank down a couple winters ago and re-painted it back to it's stock color - Lava Red. He left the decal off, but added H-A-R-L-E-Y D-A-V-I-D-S-O-N letters from a V-Rod's tank. They were chrome, small script letters, placed on individually, with adhesive backing. I wish I had taken a picture before he later sold the bike. He went "Low Tech" with his approach, no big gawdy emblem, and the effect was really something. Looked really good. Fit the tank good, and fit the lines and looks of the bike perfectly. I kinda like the tank emblems on the Street Bob, wonder if they'd fit right. Just an idea...........
A guy in the office has the Street Bob and the emblem on his is what got me thinking. It is a nice look and think would fit well. Keep the feedback coming. Thanks.
I was in having the same dillema, dont like the tank emblems on my 06 Standard.wasgoing to paint the bike a different color, and I bought some emblems off ebay I decided to do flames rather than a solid color so I wont be using them. I put them back on ebay if anyones interested.
