Cool Paint the tank emblem - suggestions?

I really like the HD tank emblem on my 07 Ultra except for the "red" lettering.

I have already picked out a replacment emblem that would fit my needs, but I think that I want to try to change the "letter" color first, from red to black (or grey I haven't decieded yet). Then if that doesn't work replace it.

Any suggestions? The problem as I see it, is in the prep. How to prep ONLY the lettering? and what type of paint to use?

Any ideas?

I did this same thing to my Wide Glide Emblems.

My emblem had chrome raised letters and the lower background was a red color I did not like.

I took the emblems off of the tank and with them laying flat on a table I began dropping in some vivid black model paint. I used a tooth pick believe it or not. It helped me get the paint in to all the nooks and crannies...

I did absolutely no prep work other than washing it with some soap/water and making sure it was completely dry before starting to paint.

I don't know how your tank badge is situated, but if your letters aren't sunken in where you want to paint, I'd probably cover it with masking tape and take a very sharp razor blade to cut out the areas of the letter I want painted. Then hit it with some enamel spray paint. I don't think you'll need to prep it at all other than to be sure it's clean.

It's held up for 3 years with on chipping or other signs of wear. Simple old Testors model paint...

I don't really have any pics that show any detail..... plus I removed them from the tank permanently.

Here ya can see the tank badges and the red background they had -- this is just home from the showroom in 2007:

This pic shows the tank badge painted black and in it's new location on my tour pack:

Ok, I see in your siggy the tank without the emblem. And I like that on the tour pak. I've got one of those, looks like an exact copy of your tour pak. HHHHhmmmmmm......
are your bags qr? They look to hold a bit more than my HD anniversary bags do. Think the tour pak holds more than one of the expandable T bags do? Mine holds 2 helmets and stuff around them.

Yes, the bags are quick release. I used Edge Brackets mounted to these Road King Police hard bags.

The this tour pack holds quite a bit. But I'm not sure it holes as much as my T-Bag:

My tour pack holds two helmets too, but if I'm traveling more than a day or two it's too small for both of us to hold all we need.

LOL, same T bag too.....funnychit.
I figure my T without the roll bag on top is pretty comparable. But the tp is easier to access and in the rain you don't have to screw with a rain cover. That and the center of gravity is much lower and on a long ride that makes a difference. Bad thing is that the T is easily removed when you arrive at your destination and my TB is bolted onto a rack that replaces my sissy bar. So I could remove it upon arrival, but I'd also need to carry the sissybar too, taking up more room.

Yeah I pack my **** in a duffle bag that fits inside my tourpack so I can bring it all in easily. Saves me from removing the whole assembly to take it in to where I'm staying.
