I am in the middle of replacing my exhaust this weekend as well. Others recommend replacing the exhaust gaskets it is very hard to get a seal after swapping exhausts. They are crush gaskets.

Not sure on the bolt size.

Another yes to the gaskets - as KeeBee indicated...they are crush & form seal when torqued. As far as bolt...can't you get a socket & see what size it is (probably 1/2 or 9/16)? Also, if you haven't already, get your bike's service manual. It has everything needed for wrenching on bike - including torque specs.

I'm replacing my exhaust this weekend too. The gaskets were only $10, I'm replacing them.

You might as well replace the gaskets. If they do not seal then you have to take it all off again. Cheap insurance.

When I replaced my exhaust, I had already read where the new gaskets don't exactly just pop into place. I was trying to be real patient, while I was pushing the exhaust gaskets in place, but I still had to walk away and come back a 1/2 hour later and try again. If I hadn't read about the hassle it is installing them, I would have came to the conclusion that they were too big in diameter to fit.

Yes, definitely replace. And make sure you get all the old out, as well. Good luck.

I went to my local auto store and baught a cheap (3.95) set of hand tools that had a hokked awl in it. I placed it inside the exhaust port and gave it a tug,and the old gaskets came right out. Purchased new from the dealer and set them inside straight and began wrenching two and three turns on each bolt before switching to the next bolt until they were very snug. Manaul says to re check after a 25 mile run. I didn't, mine are good. I wrenched the hell out of em. For front cylnder, a swival ratchet would be a good help.
