I added the progressive drop-in kit and WD wondering how many ounces of fork oil to go back with on an FL frontend?
The service manual gives some cryptic instructions but I want to be sure. I measured from top of fork tube per the manual, but only came to about 10 ounces per side. Any help before I put this thing all back together? The manual also references 12.9 ounces.
I actually did some recalculating and I had two bottles of heavy fork oil at 16oz (1 pint each) = 32 oz. I have 8 oz. left which means I put 12oz in each fork tube (32oz - 24oz = 8oz left over). The manual says 12.9 oz and my dealer just told me 13 oz. So, i guess I need to take the fork tubes back off and add another ounce on each side?
Although, I did measure correctly so I'm not sure if I should go with the measurement or with the ounce amount.
This is why I love doing my own mods. I'll never have to ask this question again, LOL!
The progressive springs are wound differently and have a thicker diameter metal than the stock HD springs which affects the Fluid Volume It's been awhile since I installed mine but I seem to remember that the recommended Fluid Height also differs than that listed in the Harley service manual. Your springs should come with instructions outlining this. If you're unsure, give Progressive a call. They're very helpful.
