I picked up a luggage rack from NoDeal on the forum, Thanks! Anyways, I am trying to attach it but the bottom screws on the backrest sit too low on the fender for me to remove them. I have to remove the backrest completely to get it connected. So I have taken off the saddlebags and the backrest is connected on each side of the fender with the mounting studs for the bags.
Now the service manual says that these can be removed as they are held on with nuts inside the fender. My problem is that I cannot feel the nuts inside the fender. So I am not even sure if I can get something on them to hold while removing and putting the studs back on.
Does anyone know if the nuts are maybe in a slot that will hold them when I attempt to remove the studs? Or I am going to have to find something that can get up there to hold them? I have attached a couple of pics showing the studs I have to remove.
They are held in place by a bracket on the inside of the fender. If you remove both studs, that bracket will come out - not a big deal, it goes back in when you put the studs back in.
