Recently I bought my first HD, it's a santee frame with all Softail drivetrain. Has a kickstart kit along with the electric start.
When I bought it, the starter didn't work.

This being my first Harley, I dove in so I would know what's going on..

I put a all ***** high torque starter on it..

After the install, the starter makes a god awful sound> I pulled the clutch inspection plate and the shaft and cog is hitting the big cog that it should be turning and hanging up. I can use a screw driver and push it off, but it's not going back like it should.. Any thoughts on this? I'm new to working on bikes, so any help will help me!!!

Engine is a 2000 model 1340 twin cam, and trans is revtech trans..

 

And battery is new.

 

Sound like the process that the solenoid does is not working correctly?

 

Without more info............Check that the starter pinion is correctly assembled.
