Gently try the longer ones. If they bottom out, you have your answer.
No, they installed fine. I'm just not real comfortable with using the stainless bolts over whatever the stock ones are. I have a feeling they are hardened bolts. Not sure how the damper rod would have more stress on it than the aluminum axle clamp but I don't want to take any chances. Besides, I think my stupidity deserves the punishment of a do over.
Jimmers!
Did you get em installed today? If so how did it go?
Got them off and drained. Decided not to reuse the original bolts since the allen in one was abit worn from my initial attempt to loosen it with a wobble ended allen. (not taking any chances this time ) Since I need to go to the dealer for the bolts tomorrow I'll also get new rubber seals for the top of the forks.
Can't wait to get the bike back together so I can get some riding in. This is the longest no ride period I've had since I got the bike. Looking forward to trying out the new handlebars too.
518s. I put the same ones on my wife's Deluxe and they were so comfortable I decided to go with them. I also went with Deluxe risers which gives me the pullback of the 508s w/o the wheelbarrow effect they have.
Suffered for 3 years with the ill fitting stock bars and I hope these give me the long ride comfort I've been looking for.
I'll post up some before and after pics when all is done. Way things are going that should be around Christmas .
I like doing my own work but times like this makes me want to pour gasoline on the bike and set it ablaze.

+1 - those front ends can be challenging, but the end result is worth it. Sometimes it helps to have a buddy present to observe and provide that second set of eyes. A frig of beers and pizza often pays off.
Keno - yup, the torque ratings listed in the manual fort hose 6mm bolts are way excessive and often resort to stripping. I've stripped the derby cover, starter clutch and

Good perseverance on the fork install!! The result is worth the effort for sure.
You'll love the 518's. I've had them on for years, and as soon as I put them on that nasty shoulder blade pain disappeared, never to return even after a full day's ride.
I chromed the front end on my 05 Deluxe this weekend.I did have a friend with me for moral support and to answer my stupid questions. The 6mm bolts came right out for me but I installed new ones just the same, for no more than they cost.I did not torque the bolts.I took them until snug and hit them with two quick burst from the impact gun.All in all I think I did ok for my first time doing this job.Good luck with yours.
