Cool stuff! Thanks for the info. I was looking into getting a bright *** light for the tail light but heard they were having issues with the 2011 softails not working correctly. I would rather keep my ambers for turn and blind the car behind me with the bal!!
I originally bought the Harley lighted chrome directional bar part # 68143-98A
. Went to install it but didnt like the way it installed. Problem was, the leds where the wires went in didnt seem too water repelant aka sealed. and the left side directional was in the way of the led to be seated properly. Im gonna mess with it one more time. So that might be up for grabs on here soon if it dont work out.
In CA lights used for brake lights must be red. I don't know about where you live. I don't know if that one will work either, but when the letter at the end of a part number changes there is usually a revision to the part.

V-Twin is right about the law and I live in Nevada.. I got one of those HD dealer kits for my 2011 Deluxe and what happens is the red lens are not diffused like the tail light and they were way to bright compared to the tail light..replace the 28 watt signal bulbs with some 12 watters. 18 watts works to, but 12 watts match perfectly, especially at night..The all red looks good and i think people will notice you more when 3 brake lights lite up rather than the one..
I installed a set of turn signal/brake light led light kit from Radiantz and use smoked lens. The brake lights are red and the turn signals are amber when engaged. The running lights are also red and are very bright. You can't have enough light in the rear because you can't trust the cagers to see you enough when it is light outside.

I ordered my BAL-1 direct from the factory. Before it shipped, someone from BAL called to let me know that because I had a 2011, some of the patterns wouldn't work without throwing a code light, but the most popular patterns worked fine. Seeing as I don't use the patterns that throw the light (mostly parade flashing), it's a non-issue for me.
I use pattern # 5 (level 2 intensity and an initial fast flash, and then steady). According to BAL, that is the pattern that most use anyway.
They did say they are working on a fix so you can use all the patterns, but I probably wouldn't use them anyway.
I love my BAL, gives me a little more confidence that I'll be seen, although I still check my mirrors and try to leave myself an "out" just in case.
Thanks for the heads up on the bal Talldog. Im gonna wait a bit to pick one to see if they work the bugs out first. I called Harley to setup the recall fix today. They will call me when its in. I will keep checking their site.
Thanks to everyone else for the replies as well. You guys rock!
